Discover God’s Word

God's Unstoppable Promise

When we consistently use a “God-sized” lens to share God’s Word with our family, it broadens our children’s understanding of who God is and how He acts in our world. It also changes how our children view themselves, their blessings, and their purpose.

Sharing the Bible with our children through a “God-sized” lens is not difficult. It just requires that we consistently frame every story with these truths:

-God is the main character of every story.
-God is always at work to make Himself known.
-God blesses His people for a greater purpose that includes others.

Bible Time Tip:

Schedule a specific time each week for your family to explore God’s Word together. Choose a day or evening when everyone is usually home. Consider times when your children are most alert. For most children, 15-30 minutes of unrushed, concentrated family Bible study time is sufficient to grow a love for God’s Word and cultivate a habit of consistent study. After a few weeks, your children will begin to associate your selected day and time with studying God’s Word as a family. They will even remind you if you forget!

Family Bible Activity:

Bible Story:

God called Abraham to leave his home and go to a land that God would show him. God didn’t tell Abraham where he was headed, but He did make a covenant, an unstoppable promise, with Abraham that would be pivotal in the rest of human history. God promised to bless Abraham so that he would be a blessing to the nations. God declared,”in you all the families of the earth will be blessed.” (Genesis 12:3) Jesus, the Savior of the world and ultimate fulfillment of the promise to bless all the families of the earth, would come through the family line of Abraham. Today, God blesses us for the same purpose–so we would be a blessing to the nations by pointing them to Jesus, the Savior of the world.

Read Genesis 12:1-3; 22:17-18 with your family. Then do the following activity together.

Family Activity:

You will need: toy that rolls (ball/car/truck)

Roll your toy across the floor and watch it move. Can it keep going forever? Discuss how everything we put in motion eventually stops. Toys might run into an obstacle like a wall or piece of furniture. Batteries will die and need to be replaced.

However, when God puts something into motion, it doesn’t stop unless He tells it to. When God created our planet, He set it in motion. It has been rotating for thousands of years. Hebrews 1:3 tells us that God keeps all things going “by His powerful word.” God is more powerful than any obstacle and He will never run out of energy. He is unstoppable!

Review God’s unstoppable promise to Abraham. Then read Revelation 7:9 together. How does this future heavenly scene demonstrate that God’s promise to Abraham will come to pass?

Use a “God-sized” lens. How does God’s unstoppable promise to Abraham demonstrate HIs love for all the families of the earth? Pray that believers worldwide would actively seek to participate in God’s purposes to bless all nations.
